Alem

We are a  Crimean Tatar non-government organization, focusing on the popularization of the culture of the Crimean Tatars — the indigenous people of Ukraine — and the integration of the culture of these people into the all-Ukrainian cultural space. It is located in Kyiv (Ukraine). With the efforts of our team, documents and informational materials were prepared for inclusion of the element of intangible cultural heritage “Ornek — Crimean Tatar ornament and knowledge about it” to the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine (2018) and to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (2021). Alem coordinates and carries out activities regarding the safeguarding of the element of intangible cultural heritage.

This site was created within Alem’s project “Meanings Unifying People” with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine with reference to the Operational principles and modalities for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in emergencies of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
